Graduate School of Science

The Graduate School of Science aims to nurture human resources with broad perspectives and a high level of expertise who can respond immediately to the rapid trend of emerging new technologies and disciplines, and who can be active globally, by organizing conventional academic disciplines including mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and earth sciences, as well as interdisciplinary areas such as material- and bio-informatics from the perspective of material science and life science.

Department

Department of Material Science

In order to conduct advanced education and research on the properties and reactions of materials based on their atomic and molecular structures, the department has established four divisions: "Condensed Matter Physics - Theory and Mathematical Science", "Condensed Matter Physics - Experiment", "Structure and Functional Material Science", and "Chemical Reactions and Molecular Design". Education and research are conducted into the development of physical and mathematical methods to elucidate the manifestation of physical properties of materials, the control of the optimal manifestation of physical properties, and the design and creation of materials that carry physical properties, aiming to foster engineers and researchers who can understand the organic relationship from the fundamentals to applications of materials science.

Department of Life Science

In addition to the "Division of Structural Analysis of Biomaterials," "Division of Functional Analysis of Biomaterials," and "Division of Functional Analysis of Cells," which conduct education and research on the elucidation of biological phenomena at the molecular and cellular levels, the "Division of Geoenvironmental Science" has been established to conduct education and research on the global environment, which is the foundation for the continuation of life. The department also conducts education and research on the global environment as a place that hosts life, as well as education and research on the application of mathematical analysis methods to experimental results, with the aim of fostering engineers and researchers with a multidisciplinary perspective on nature.
