President’s Message for the University of Hyogo Students (Tenth Message): The Fall Semester Is Starting; Let’s Make It a Safe and Healthy One

Dear students,

The fall semester starts tomorrow. As you are already aware, courses will mainly be delivered in person. Fine-tuning schedules, seating layouts, and the like as part of our schools’ anti-Covid efforts meant that not every course could revert to in-person delivery, so some will be conducted online. Be sure to check with your school for details.

Thanks to your sensible precautions, the University of Hyogo community has not yet had a case of Covid-19 infection, but as the resumption of in-person classes means increased contact between faculty and students, this will naturally entail a higher risk. Now more than ever, it is important that we all remain vigilant if we are to return to a normal university experience where you can rub shoulders with your colleagues in classes and extracurricular activities.

Once again, I urge you to read and follow the information below so as to help the University of Hyogo and the community at large stay safe from Covid-19.

?When commuting by public transport, take all precautions to protect yourself and give due consideration to the community at large.

?When on a campus, comply with that campus’s specific infection prevention measures.

?Comply with rules relating to classroom seat spacing and contact tracing.

?In the student cafeteria, keep conversation to a minimum and leave promptly after you have finished eating.

?Do not go out with colleagues, for instance for a meal or drinks after extracurricular club activity, when this will involve close proximity. Do not organize or attend social events or other “going out for drinks” gatherings as club related ones.

?Do not participate in gatherings with friends that might involve going out for a meal or drinks, or in events with a high risk of infection.

?Refrain from non-urgent travel to the Tokyo metropolitan area and other major cities with a high risk of Covid-19 infection.

?Do not participate in customer-facing part-time work at restaurants, etc.

?Do not spend time at city shopping or entertainment districts unless necessary.

Sincerely yours,

Isao OHTA
President
University of Hyogo
