Institute for Policy Analysis and Social Innovation

The Institute conducts various studies and makes policy proposals to elucidate the causes of the rapid socio-economic changes in recent years. A major goal today is to build a sustainable society for the next generation. In line with the development targets set out in the SDGs, the Institute conducts multifaceted research and policy advocacy activities to improve our lives sustainably.

Laboratory of Advanced Science and Technology for Industry

The Institute owns, operates, and manages "NewSUBARU," the largest synchrotron radiation facility owned by a university in Japan. The Institute excels at basic research using synchrotron radiation in the soft X-ray region and in joint research and development with industry. Regarding education, our staff belong to the Department of Materials and Synchrotron Radiation Engineering at the Graduate School of Engineering. Cutting-edge research topics are addressed in graduation and postgraduate studies, and students actively engage in conference presentations and joint research with industry. Many graduates are working in industry and universities based on their experience gained here.

Institute of Natural and Environmental Sciences

Consisting of five divisions, Nature and Environment, Regional Resource Management, Forest and Wildlife, Astronomy and Astrophysics, and Landscape and Horticulture, in five different areas within Hyogo Prefecture, the Institute of Natural and Environmental Sciences is engaged in practical research aiming to: enhance biodiversity conservation; elucidate taxonomic diversity in fossil biota including dinosaurs; establish reintroduced storks (Ciconia boyciana) as wild populations; create urban green environments; manage wildlife appropriately; and made progress in high-precision astronomical observations. University faculty members assigned to the Institute concurrently serve as research staff at social education facilities and research institutes of the Prefecture. Our goal is to establish a new model which with our expert staff contribute to solving various problems of society and enhance education and academic research activities.

Research Institute of Nursing Care for People and Community

The Institute's research activities include practical initiatives such as "town healthcare rooms," alongside research on the use of digital technology in home healthcare and community nursing and research into global health issues with a focus on disaster nursing. In recent years, the Institute has conducted research on assisting health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic as a designated WHO Collaborating Center for Disaster Risk Management for Health. It also acts as a consultation center for the community, local authorities, and other relevant organizations engaged in frailty prevention programs.

Advanced Medical Engineering Research Institute

The Institute was established in April 2022 at Harima-Himeji General Medical Center (HGMC). Together with HGMC, its objective is to bridge the gap between medical fields and the state-of-the-art natural sciences, human sciences, and social sciences to conduct research and development for innovative medical devices, healthcare, nursing/care, and food/nutrition. We also offer open graduate education programs, recurrent education programs, and involvement in medical-industry-academia collaboration initiatives.
