Preserving life in garden ecosystems

Graduate School of Regional Resource Management

Associate Professor Kazuaki Naito

Biodiversity is quickly disappearing in areas that have been maintained due to the lifestyles of humans, in places like rice paddies, mountain villages, and mountains near villages.

I am conducting ecological research on preservation of endangered animals and biocoenosis in such places. My focus is on the impact and effects of environmentally-conscious rice farming on the species composition and population density of plants and animals that inhabit areas near rice paddies, and on the impact and effects of biotope management in areas like resting rice fields on the diversity of plant communities.
