Creating a bionest in a town creation gardener theme course

[Graduate School of Landscape Design and Management] 2023.10.16

At a town creation gardener theme course at Hyogo Prefectural Awaji Landscape Planning & Horticulture Academy on Saturday, September 30, participants created a bionest to be used as a simple structure for composting.

Participants created a stacked, round structure using dead trees and pruned branches from around campus. About 20 participants worked together and completed it within 30 minutes.

It is a splendid work of art.

It is called a “bionest” because it has the appearance of a bird’s nest.

Since this nest was created using natural materials, it blends in well with the scenery of a park or garden.
This type of structure promotes reuse of resources. Mowed grass and pruned branches are not disposed of as waste. If they can become compost, then they can be used in gardens.

It is simple but extremely effective.

Grass that was removed from the garden was put inside.

The bionest was built by using thick branches on the bottom and then gradually staking and weaving together thin ones.
